Eating Well

Have you ever heard of the saying , you are what you eat? That has a lot to do with the Serotonin in your body. Serotonin is a neurotransmitter that helps regulate sleep and appetite, mediate moods, and inhibit pain. Since about 95% of your serotonin is produced in your gastrointestinal tract, it makes sense that the inner workings of your digestive system don’t just help you digest food, but also guide your emotions.

If you eat food that are high in probiotics, it will benefit your mental wellness.

Studies have compared “traditional” diets, like the Mediterranean diet and the traditional Japanese diet, to a typical “Western” diet and have shown that the risk of depression is 25% to 35% lower in those who eat a traditional diet. So let’s talk about becoming more aware of what we eat! There are many different types of preferences such as vegetarian, vegan, and flexitarian! Today, We want you all to take a pledge to reduce the use of red meats, deli meats, and processed foods. This option is called flexitarian. If you want to learn more about different eating preferences, we have made online flashcards for you all. Just Click Here and it will take you to the page on our website!

Living Well

There are many proven benefits of living a healthier lifestyle! The first thing we would like to touch base on is working out! Working out has been proven to help alleviate stress and increase self esteem. It can be used as a distraction and can improve cognitive function. Therefore working out will lead to a better mental health state of being! Last workshop with Healthy Hussle we talked about food deserts. Food deserts are places where natural and organic food is hard to find. NYC is a food desert, when you go outside, all you see is unhealthy options. The reason why you should care about what you eat is that In recent years there has been a rise in small businesses that are going healthy. In our own community, we have a lot of small local businesses that we can support while also being good to our bodies. Companies like A Fresh Start who is here today to talk to us about her own food journey and why she began to dive into plant based foods.

Thinking Well

In addition to eating healthy and physically maintaining a healthy lifestyle, it is super important to be mindful on how you think! We here at MoHo Dance use our workshops for this exact purpose.
