One of the most important parts of self-care is taking care of your hair, especially as women of color. Having healthy hair can give you that extra boost of confidence or uplift your mood, even on your roughest days. Although there can be lots of variety with hair, there are some universal tips that can make sure that your hair is healthy, hydrated, happy, and strong. 1. DRINK WATER

Keeping your body hydrated is the key to healthy hair! If your body is dehydrated your hair and scalp will be dehydrated.
Make sure to drink at least 8 glasses of water a day.You can flavor your water with fruits like strawberries, lemon or berries for extra flavor too!
2. ESTABLISH A HAIR CARE ROUTINE

There are so many different hair care routines out there. What’s important is to find the hair care routine that is right for YOUR hair. Here are some things that should always be in your hair care routine:  A shampoo free of harsh chemicals (i.e. parabens, sulfates)  A creamy conditioner for easy detangling (It’s best to detangle your hair when it is wet and has product in it)  An oil that will re-hydrate your hair after a fresh wash  If straightening your hair, wait to apply the oil after flat ironing it. Use a heat protectant before you blow-dry and straighten your hair. 3. USE NATURAL INGREDIENTS Natural products can be the best thing to use in your hair. There are lots of natural oils and ingredients that you can use that have amazing benefits for the hair and skin. Here are some natural ingredients and their benefits:
Aloe Vera is known to strengthen, soften and hydrate the hair. The gel can be used as a pre-poo before shampooing. You can also use it to deep condition.
Olive oil is great for moisturizing the hair and the scalp. It helps eliminate dry/itchy scalp and dandruff. Jojoba oil has been known to be similar to the oils that our hair naturally produces. It seals in moisture so it’s great to use after a leave in conditioner or after using hydrating oils like olive oil and avocado oil.
Summary: ï‚· Drink water, at least 8 glasses a day. ï‚· Find a hair care routine that works best for your hair. ï‚· Use natural products. You can use aloe vera as a pre-poo, olive oil as a hydrating oil, and jojoba oil as a sealant.
